Spaghetti

04 Jan

I know what you’re thinking.  As soon as I mention the mere word spaghetti you instantly are transported to a plate (by no means a small one) filled with pasta, red sauce, and meatballs.  Perhaps you have fond memories of a date you went on with the love of your life, or the one time your husband cooked an edible meal.  Gentlemen in the audience, listen up.  Spaghetti is one of those meals we can use to impress a lady.  Its simple!  Just follow the directions on the box…yes…you do actually have to read the directions…for the pasta.  Pop open a jar of Ragu or Prego (or if you have the patience, make a fresh sauce) toss the two together, top it with a mountain of shredded Parmesan, and you’ve got a romantic evening ahead of yourself:

Now…spaghetti is much more than red sauce and meatballs.  It can be paired with just about any sauce you can think of.  It goes great with carbonara, or a garlic olive oil sauce.  Yet one of the greatest things I’ve enjoyed doing with spaghetti is munching on the dry pieces one at a time while waiting for dinner to be ready.  I’ve done this since I was a kid and I’ll probably be doing it until my teeth aren’t strong enough any more.  There is just something so satisfying about the crunch of the raw pasta while the aroma of dinner is dancing all around you.  However you choose to celebrate, know that you’re in good hands with spaghetti.

Happy spaghetti day!
