Product Review: Stouffer’s Corner Bistro Chicken Asiago Panini

04 Jun

Grilled bread from the microwave? Can it be true?  Actually it is!  The product development team at Stouffer’s really did it this time with their patented tray that actually leaves grill marks in the bread.  The back of the box says:

“Welcome to corner bistro!

Our panini have all the special touches, like bakery-style breads, select meats and real cheeses!

Our Revolutionary Grilling Tray keeps bread crispy on the outside and soft on the inside for a great taste.”

And it did just that.  Besides having left gill marks, the bread had an incredible crisp bite to it with the inside of the sandwich being gooey from the melted cheese.  On top of all the great texture this sandwich presented itself with a delicious smell while it was cooking perched atop of the box like a sandwich on a pedestal made for worshiping.  The sun dried tomatoes and spinach in the sandwich didn’t have a weird chewy feeling that I would expect from these being microwaved.

Overall I highly recommend this sandwich to anyone that doesn’t have the time to cook themselves a panini but is looking for a similar great taste and texture.

Who knew microwaved foods could be just one more reason to live to eat.

I strongly disagree with the above review. I followed all of the directions on the box, cooked it for a median time of 3 minutes on high (the box recommends between 2:45 – 3:15) and my sandwich came out with chewy tomatoes and hardly-grilled bread. It was disappointing. While the overall taste wasn’t that bad, for as much saturated fat and sodium as you’re getting in this panini, you’d think it would taste like ambrosia.

Evan: Thanks for your comment. I’m sorry that your microwaved sandwich experience wasn’t as delicious as I had promised. The next time I can find another box I’ll give it another try and give a follow up review, although it may be awhile because its hard to find these things in Hong Kong.
