“With food as my passion I plan to use this blog to bring a new light to the eyes of everyday consumers who go through their lives using food only as a source of nourishment (eating to live). I hope to inspire some passion for food as well as wine and show people the reasons to have food become something to look forward to each day (living to eat).” –About Me
I wrote this a little over a year ago. Now, I’m not going to say that my passion for food and wine as diminished in any sense of the word (if anything it has become stronger), but I believe that I was a little shallow minded when I first started this blog. In the past year I have graduated college, moved to the other side of the world, discovered yoga, met incredible people…etc. The list of changes in a year of ones life goes on and on like the energizer bunny. With the changes that occurred in the past year I’ve come to realized that Eating to Live, as well as Living to Eat is a much deeper philosophy than simple food choices. I will continue to write about food as it is my passion, but don’t be surprised if you begin to see postings that aren’t exactly food related.
I would like to inspire a new thought process through my Eat to Live, Live to Eat philosophy. It is basically the same as when I started out talking about food, but put to almost every real life situation. Believe it or not, there are people out there that are “content” with their life of the Monday-Friday 9-5, lunch at the same place every day, choosing between the same three meals at home every week and their idea of treating themselves is a trip to the local Olive Garden. Don’t get me wrong, I love their steak and gorgonzola fettichunni alfredo, but I can also think of about a hundred other things I’ve never tried before that would be more of a “treat”.
I’m not saying that all of the things I post are going to be for everyone. Maybe you don’t have the nerves to do the highest bungee jump in the world (a post which is soon to come I promise), or you’re lactose intolerant, or you’ve made the life decision not to eat meat; all of these things are acceptable. I’m just going to attempt to give you a little nudge into the life you know you want to experience, but may be a little afraid to try.
This is really the point I’ve been trying to ramble onto:
Eating to Live is how I would describe anybody that is “content” with their everyday, monotone, bland life. This is when you’ve come to a point where you have become so comfortable in your daily routine that you have lost that thrill for life, the childhood wonder you once so dearly held on to. Fear not, for it doesn’t have to remain that way. The first steps will be the hardest, but it only takes the first few to be back on track for the life you’ve always imagined but got to caught up in the “way things need to be”. Eating to Live is just that, “eating” only what is necessary for you to continue to exist.
Living to Eat is how I believe everyone should live their life every day. Instead of only “eating”, or experiencing, those things that are necessary for existence, it is taking a baby step further, attempting some of the things that makes life worth living, while enjoying the things that are necessary for existence. There are certain things that are necessary for life: food and shelter being the most basic. By enjoying the things that we NEED to live, and appreciating the extras that we have to make that life a little easier, we are Living to Eat.
So the future outlook of this blog will still mainly focus on food, but I hope to also log times when I have added an unexpected spice to my life and possibly inspire you, my readers (mom), to join me in never being content with simply Eating to Live, but spicing up your life and Living to Eat.
