About Me

Hi! My name is John Osorio, thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. Please check back frequently for new delicious posts.

Food has long been a passion of mine and is shared throughout my family. I have many fond memories of Grandmas sitting me on the counter while they baked cookies, Grandfathers teaching me how to steal the first bite of the turkey without getting caught, and dad teaching me how to slop on the barbeque sauce. My biggest inspiration though would have to be my mother.

Dear ol’ mom isn’t exactly chef material but I love her anyway. She has been known to burn canned ravioli and serve gourmet dinners of “barf” (her famous tatter-tot casserol that looks hideous but is actually quite delicious). Mom’s lack of culinary know how made me interested to learn how to cook for myself and my younger brother so we could have tasty meals. It turns out that cooking is not genetic and I began taking over cooking dinner on most nights.

Not all of my recipes always worked out in the beginning. I remember attempting to make chocolate-cheese (every ten year old’s two favorite foods). Unfortunatly I didn’t understand that a hershey’s bar and velveta weren’t top of the line items and just weren’t going to be good.

Today I am a recent graduate of Johnson & Wales University where I recieved an Associates degree in Culinary Arts and a Bachelors degree in Food Service Management. I also have a vocational degree in Culinary Arts from Waynesville Technical Academy. I am moving with my family to Hong Kong early June of 2008 where I plan to work with a few chefs to further my knowledge as well as persue my passion for food and writing with this blog and hopefully become published by a travel magazine or two.

With food as my passion I plan to use this blog to bring a new light to the eyes of everyday consumers who go through their lives using food only as a source of nourishment (eating to live). I hope to inspire some passion for food as well as wine and show people the reasons to have food become something to look forward to each day (living to eat).
